Sunday night is a precious time to unwind and set the tone for the upcoming week. At Authentic Abodes, we believe that a well-prepared week begins with a well-spent Sunday evening. In this blog post, we’ll explore ten simple yet impactful rituals that can help you transform your Sunday nights into a time of relaxation, organization, and preparation, all while embracing the authentic abode spirit.

1. Reflect and Set Intentions

Start by reflecting on the past week’s accomplishments and challenges. Take a few moments to journal your thoughts and set intentions for the week ahead. What do you want to achieve? What are your priorities? I recently started journaling and it’s always an amazing way to do a “brain dump” from the previous week and to spend some quality time thinking about your goals for the week ahead. If you don’t have a lot of time, no worries! Allow yourself to free write. Don’t check spelling, don’t worry about punctuation, just take 15-20 minutes to get all your thoughts out on a page. I have a special journal for my weekly reflections but you can do this exercise on your computer, phone, or a fresh piece of paper. Here is the perfect journal if you are looking for a jumping off point:

2. Declutter Your Space

Authentic abodes are known for their simplicity and cleanliness. Dedicate some time to declutter your living space, clearing out any unnecessary items. A tidy environment promotes clarity of mind.

Here’s a quick article from Real Simple that provides a helpful decluttering schedule: https://www.realsimple.com/decluttering-schedule-7095846

3. Plan Your Meals

Plan your meals for the week. Not only does this save time and money, but it also ensures that you have nourishing options readily available, promoting a healthier lifestyle. If you meal prep for the week, Sunday is generally the best day to get this done. I usually have a few nights of “heavier” cooking recipes on the menu, a few nights of easy to make recipes, a few nights featuring meal prep/leftovers and a night for ordering in or going out. If you prep for the week ahead, this meal prep kit has everything you need to take your lunch with you, or to send along with your kiddos.

4. Select Outfits for the Week

Spend a few minutes choosing your outfits for the upcoming week. This eliminates the morning rush and allows you to start your days with confidence and style. I try my best to do this for myself and for my kindergartner to make mornings a little easier. If I can get her buy-in on her outfit for the next day the evening before, it’s much easier to get out the door 🙂

5. Review Your Calendar

Review your calendar for the week. Check for appointments, deadlines, and commitments. Having a clear understanding of your schedule helps you manage your time effectively.

I am a big fan of the Structured app which allows you to sync up your work and home calendars and also lets you add in additional tasks. There is an AI assistant that allows you to talk through your day and then helps draft your schedule for you! You can find more info here : https://structured.app/

6. Unplug and Relax

Create a calming atmosphere by unplugging from electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime. Instead, engage in relaxing activities like reading, practicing mindfulness, or taking a soothing bath. Poor a scoop of this bath salt in the tub, light your favorite candle and grab a nice cup of team. It’s the perfect way to end your week!

7. Prepare a To-Do List

Create a to-do list for Monday. Jot down the tasks you need to tackle first thing in the morning. This helps you start the week with a sense of purpose and direction. You can do this as part of your intention journal, in your notes or structured app, in your daily planner, or on a simple sticky note. Whatever is most effective for you. I’ve been using this daily planner for years and often gift it to friends:

8. Practice Self-Care

Embrace self-care rituals that nourish your mind, body, and soul. This can include yoga, meditation, or simply savoring a cup of herbal tea. Authentic abodes prioritize well-being. Enjoying a cup of team in the evenings is one of my favorite year-round rituals and my go-to is usually SleepyTime tea. However, I really love any blend from Celestial Seasonings. Peppermint always feels like a treat when the weather starts turning and the Tension Tamer blend always help calm my frazzled nerves 🙂

9. Connect with Loved Ones

Sundays are an ideal time to connect with loved ones. Reach out to family and friends, share stories from the weekend, and strengthen your bonds. My mom and her sister have a sweet routine of calling their mom each Sunday to connect and talk about the week. In our house, we make sure to sit down as a family on Sunday’s for a nice meal and we talk about the highs and lows from the week. This is one of my five-year-old’s favorite activities and she usually leads the discussion. It also allows us to catch up with our highschooler, who seems to be always on the go!

10. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Lastly, ensure you get a good night’s sleep. Authentic abodes value rest and rejuvenation. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep to wake up refreshed and ready to conquer the week. If you struggle getting to sleep, or staying asleep and haven’t tried a sleep mask, I’d highly recommend!

By incorporating these Sunday night rituals into your routine, you can create a sense of calm and preparedness that sets the stage for a productive and fulfilling week ahead. Authentic abodes are built on principles of simplicity, organization, and well-being, and these rituals align perfectly with those values.

So, as you embrace the authentic abode spirit, take time each Sunday evening to reflect, declutter, and nourish your soul. Your week will thank you for it, and you’ll find yourself better equipped to handle whatever challenges and opportunities come your way.
